Description
Malaria chemoprophylaxis is the use of medication to prevent malaria infection. This SOP provides detailed guidelines for supplying and administering malaria chemoprophylaxis, this includes:
- Determine the patient’s need for chemoprophylaxis based on their travel destination, length of stay, type of travel (such as urban or rural), and other risk factors.
- Choose an appropriate chemoprophylaxis regimen based on the patient’s needs and medical history.
- Educate the patient on the proper use of the medication.
- Prescribe the medication and provide the patient with a written copy of the prescription. It is important to include the exact dosage, frequency, and duration of the chemoprophylaxis regimen.
- Monitor the patient for compliance with the chemoprophylaxis regimen and for any adverse reactions to the medication.
- Provide the patient with information on how to reduce the risk of malaria infection while traveling, such as using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and sleeping under a mosquito net.
